Before she embarked on writing the “Padam” series, Phia Damsma’s published work ranged from recreational guides for young families, to newspaper columns and academic papers. She is co-founder of Sonokids and creative writer for the Sonokids ‘Ballyland’ educational game apps that are used around the world by children with and without disability. For this work King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands has honoured Phia with a Knighthood in the Order of Oranje-Nassau. She was also recognised with an Honorary Fellowship of the University of Southern Queensland. Phia speaks seven languages and enjoys adding a touch of foreign culture to her “Padam” children’s books. She lives with her husband in Tropical North Queensland, Australia. They share their home with their beloved and smart Australian kelpie.
